New Office in the Works

I have signed a lease a small office in the Regus Business Center in the Research Park area.  Look for a Grand Opening announcement soon.

We have very nearly unpacked our household stuff.  Still missing a few odds and ends; bu, I am sure they will turn up…..just as soon as I buy a new one.

Moving Again.

So, someone once told me that nothing is constant but change.  Little did I know that would mean that I would be moving again.

I am closing up my business in Richmond Hill, GA and relocating to Madison, AL.

I plan to maintain this website and my email address.  I will post a new phone number here when I get one.

I expect that I will re-open in the Huntsville/Madison, AL area before the end of 2019.

My Favorite Non-Alcoholic Beverage

In this day and age of mock-tails and healthy infusions of the latest exotic ingredients, I thought I would share my all-time favorite iced tea.Substance Abuse Counselor Savannah

  1.  One gallon of cold water, the cleanest you can get.  We have an RO tap in the kitchen; so, I usually use that.
  2. Two Tetley quart-sized tea bags.
  3. Six conventional Earl Grey tea bags.
  4. 6-8 cloves.  (Yeah, the kind you stick in a ham or Indian food.)
  5. 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda.
  6. Sugar to taste, I usually use about 1/2 cup.
  7. One quart ice water.

Add the baking soda and cloves to the water and heat to 185 degrees.  Don’t worry if you don’t have a thermometer, just turn off the heat as lots of little bubbles start to form.  You don’t want a rolling, full-on boil as this would scald the tea leaves.

 

Add the tea bags and set a 20 minute timer.

As you remove the bags, do not squeeze them.  Most of the bitterness will be trapped in the bag and you really don’t want that in your tea.  You can fish out any of the cloves that are floating.

Add the sugar and stir gently.

Add the cold water and wait a few minutes.  All the solids (bitter stuff) will settle to the bottom of the pot along with any bits of the cloves you may have missed.

I usually put my tea in quart mason jars and set them aside to seal before putting them in the ‘fridge.

Serve over a tall glass of ice, garnish as you like with mint, lemon or lime.

We are moving to GA

My sweet and darling wife has promoted into a position as a labor law attorney at Ft. Stewart, GA and we will be relocating shortly after my daughter completes her school year.

North Little Rock has been a great place for us.  We will miss our friends, classmates, co-workers and neighbors.

I have filed articles of incorporation in Georgia with the same business name and will dissolve my LLC in AR.   My last full day at the North Little Rock location will be Saturday, May 19, 2018.  I have signed a lease on a place in Richmond Hill, GA; but, I have not yet gotten a business license there as I am waiting for the registration process of my Georgia-based LLC.

Tobacco Cessation and Avoiding Weight Gain

Stopping smoking was one of the toughest, and most rewarding, things I have ever done for my recovery. I sobered up in 1993 and could not stop smoking until 1999.  Like some really smart people have told me:  “It takes what it takes.”

One of the things that was really helpful for me was to have been actively involved in a substance abuse recovery program.   It gave me a lot of tools to use and heightened my own level of disparity and disgust with what I was doing to my body by continuing to smoke.

Along the same lines, I was working for a treatment center that went tobacco-free.  As part of that, I was required to take a class to teach the clients how to stop smoking and then teach them the same material.  That was a difficult set of mental gymnastics that I had to perform to continue smoking, especially when personal consistency between words and actions is such a huge part of staying clean and sober.
